<title>An empirical study on job satisfaction and organizational Citizenship behavior in schools in Sri Lanka</title>
<link>http://drr.vau.ac.lk/handle/123456789/1722</link>
<description>An empirical study on job satisfaction and organizational Citizenship behavior in schools in Sri Lanka
Ithrees, A. G. I. M.; Rauf, F. H. A.
Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) is very important for organizational success. &#13;
Job satisfaction is a significant variable in predicting citizenship behaviors. It is very &#13;
essential to identify and promote the level of OCB of school teachers in Sri Lanka since &#13;
the teachers are significant resources to achieve the better performance of the students &#13;
who are the future resources of the labor market as well as the economy of the country. &#13;
The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effect of job satisfaction on the &#13;
organizational citizenship behavior of school teachers. To achieve this objective, the &#13;
authors have selected the 1AB category of schools in the Kalmunai zone in Sri Lanka. &#13;
Primary data was collected using a structured questionnaire from a simple random &#13;
sample of 184 school teachers. The study has found that teacher job satisfaction impacts &#13;
teacher’s OCB in the Kalmunai zone. Moreover, the mean value shows that the job &#13;
satisfaction and OCB are at a moderate level, and job satisfaction has a strong positive &#13;
relationship with OCB. Intrinsic job satisfaction was found to be significantly correlated &#13;
with altruism, conscientiousness, civic virtue, sportsmanship and courtesy dimensions of &#13;
OCB. The results of multiple regression analysis shown that 55% of the variation in the &#13;
OCB is explained by job satisfaction. However, the relationship between extrinsic job &#13;
satisfaction and OCB was negative. Recommendations and directions for future research &#13;
are also suggested.
